CPF Safety Project

Mr. Teerasak Urunanon ,Executive vice president of Charoen Pokphand Foods (CPF), revealed that OIE (World Organization for Animal Health) and the Department of Livestock Development (DLD) have selected CPF broiler farm as the first global pilot project for the implementation of compartmentalisation for AI in the commercial poultry sector. Thailand is one country that has been recognized as the first country to practically apply the OIE concept of compartmentalisation and CPF is the first company in Thailand that has been accredited by the DLD as AI-free compartment covering broiler farms and meat-type duck farms under 4 CPF companies namely 1) Charoen Pokphand Foods Public Company Limited (broiler)  2) Bangkok Produce Merchandising Public Company Limited (broiler)   3) CPF Food Products Company Limited (broiler)    4) Bangkok Agro-Industrial Products Public Company Limited (meat-type duck).

As mentioned by Mr.Teerasak, the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on the poultry compartmentalisation between the DLD and CPF has been signed since July 2006. Recently, all 4 companies of CPF group have been approved for biosecurity management manual and on-site audit by the DLD. In addition, all those companies have completely conducted the AI surveillance in the compartment and in the buffer zone for 12 months consecutively able to ensure that all farms in the compartment could demonstrate AI-free status in compliance with the DLD requirements and international standards.

CPF is ready for the implementation of compartmentalisation as we already have the highest standard farm management put in place; we just improve a few measures to strengthen our management to prove that all farms including the buffer zone of each compartment are AI-free, Mr.Teerasak said.  The compartmentalisation will benefit not only to enhance effectiveness of the AI prevention and control, but also help to reduce the prevalence of other animal diseases, increase productivity and ensure food safety to a consumer which is the most concern for sustainable food marketing.

The implementation of compartmentalisation has four important criteria;
1)      Biosecurity management standard
2)      Surveillance programme in the farm and in 1-km. buffer zone around the
         farm
3)      Disease control in the farm and in 1-km. buffer zone around the farm

4)      Traceability
